
Fanny Blankers-Koen, the Dutch "flying housewife" at age 30 won the 100m, 200m, 80m hurdles and ran the anchor leg of the winning relay team.
The mother of two held the world record in the high jump and long jump but was prohibited from participating because of a rule that allowed women to compete in only three individual events.
