Learn Chinese - 唇亡齿寒 - Lips are Gone, the Teeth Will Be Cold

唇 chun 亡 wang 齿 chi 寒 han - If the lips are gone, the teeth will be cold.

Well, duh?

How important is it to the teeth to have lips on the mouth to protect them?

Kind of a dumb question perhaps.

When a certain confidant to a King in ancient China was challenged, he responded by saying he and the king were like lips and teeth, that is, their relationship and interdependence was very close.

If you are thinking about gossiping to someone in the work place, be sure his/her lips are not too close to the boss' teeth, eh?
