Learn Chinese - 吹牛皮Blowing into the Cow Hide

by admin on January 12th, 2008

吹 chui 牛 niu 皮 pi  Blowing into the cow hide.

Most people know how hard it is to blow up one of those skinny little balloons.

There are tales of people who can blow up and burst a water bottle.

At any rate, these people are definitely filled with a lot of hot air.

How much hot air would somebody need to blow up a raft made of cow hide?

This is where this expression comes from.

If someone is telling you about a business deal that seems too good to be true, they are probably telling a tall tale of blowing into a cow hide.
