Chinese People Living Healthier, Longer

by admin on January 8th, 2008

Chinese people are living healthier and longer lives.

In 2000, life expectancy was 71.4 years. It is now 73 years.

Improved medical and sanitary conditions resulting from economic development are credited.

Infant mortality decreased to 1.53% in 2007 from 2.55% in 2003.

Women dying in pregnancy are also fewer. 36.6/10,000 in 2007 to 51.3/10,000 in 2003.

Last year China spent some $144.43 billion in healthcare.

Government spending on health care increase by one percent from 2003. Resident's spending decreased by 6.5% during the same period.

China has 24,000 more medical institutions now than in 2003 - 315,000.

The number of medical practitioners is up 1.56/1,000 from 1.43/1,000.

Nurses are up, 1.12/1,000 from 1/1,000.

Pretty soon China will be wondering how it can care for all their elderly.

A good problem indeed, eh?
