China’s First 3G Nuclear Power Plant Begins Construction in March

by admin on January 6th, 2008

The State Nuclear Power Technology Company (SNPTC) said China's first third-generation Nuclear Power plant will begin construction in March of this year.

It will become the world's first AP1000 nuclear plant.

The AP1000 is designed by Westinghouse company which is owned by Toshiba of Japan.

The plant will be built in Haiyang, Shandong Province.

The SNPTC will buy four 3G PWRs from Westinghouse.mihama.nuclear.power.jpg

China has 11 nuclear generating plants.

1. 3 employ domestic technology

2. 2 are Russian built

3. 4 are French

4. 2 are Canadian

All of those plants are second-generation.

China wants 4% of its power to come from nuclear generation facilities by 2020.

It's high time, well, no it's late for America to get back on the nuclear power track.

What do you think?
