Top 5 Countries in Global Wind Energy Market

by admin on November 3rd, 2007

The secretary general of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) says "China and the United States will become the two major wind energy markets in the world."

Most likely because China needs it and the United States can afford it…but that's another matter.

China currently ranks fifth in terms of installed wind energy capacity.

The United States is number one.

2. Germany

3. India

However, China is expected to reach 5GW by the end of this year, 3 years ahead of schedule and moving the country ahead of Germany.

By 2020, China wants 4% of the country's total power generation to come from the wind - 50GW.

With more government support, says Chinese Renewable Energy Industries Association (CREIA), China could have 120GW by 2020 =  the generation capacity of five Three Gorges Dam projects.

Presently, wind power accounts for 5.7% of global power generation…in China, still less than 1%.

China gets 8% of its energy from renewable energy sources (including wind power).

By 2010, Beijing wants that number to be 10%.

What do you think of wind power?
