Save Tibet from the Tourism Boom

by admin on November 12th, 2007

The Tibet Autonomous Region has hosted 3.72 million tourists in the first 10 months of this year.

Last year, the region saw only 1 million total for the entire year.

The tourists have spent $550 million.

One in ten tourists were from overseas.

Tibet had hoped that since the opening of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway on July 1, 2006 the region would see 3.8 million tourists this year.

The four million odd tourists are expected to account for 12% of Tibet's GDP.

We wonder, how many visitors would the region have if the Beijing hadn't seen to the completion of the QT Railway.

Save Tibet…from the tourists!
