Yao Ming helps kick off Special Olympics

NBA center and China's favorite athlete, Yao Ming, was there to kick off the Special Olympics.

The 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games opened in Shanghai with more than 7,000 athletes from 165 countries and regions participating.

It's the first time for the even to be held in Asia and only the second time outside of the U.S.

Yao Ming -  "Compared with three years ago, when I first got into work related with the Special Olympics, I now feel that the intellectual disabled are more

integrating into the society."

Reflecting on some Special Olympic players' basketball skills, "It impressed me a lot. I was shocked by their skills. Playing with them was enjoyable."

A real role model - "I was fined by the Rockets for leaving the team (already in training), but it's worth it. Nothing is more important than doing things for the Special Olympics."

And finally- I can see that they are much happier and more outgoing," Yao said.

Is there any counter-argument to why Yao Ming is China's favorite?

Big enough to be two role models in one and actions to support it as well.
