Korean Reunification For Sale - $1.3 Trillion

Korea's National Assembly is estimating that it will cost from $850 billion to $1.3 Trillion to reunify the Koreas IF it happens between 2015 - 2040.

The report also said that 'reunification costs' would account for about 6% of South Korea's GDP and is 'affordable' to the South.

They could instead spend it on global warming and have NOTHING to show for it, but…

South Korea could pay for the reunification by:

1. reducing military expenditures

2. raising taxes

3. selling bondsnorth.south.korea.jpg

4. low-interest loans from financial institutions

The professor who led the study - "It would be burdensome for the South Korean people, but our country has the economic power to cope with the unification cost."

The North and South have been in a truce since 1953….the War is still going on.

Who would benefit the most from a reunification of the North and South?
