India doesn't have a system for approval of hybrid cars yet. However, when it does, Honda Siel Cars India Ltd. wants to start importing the Honda Civics.
High tariffs mean the Civic Hybrid will cost twice as much in India as it does in Japan.
On an India salary at that!
Honda has only a 4% market share in India.
China gets the Civic Hybrid by the end of this year.
Toyota Motor is already selling its Prius in China where it is produced…
Starting in Dec 2005 Toyota sold 1,700 Priuses last year.
Japanese automakers think there are enough rich in India and China to make it worthwhile to market their hybrids to those countries.
