Blog Action Day - China Threatens Trade Suspension of Polluters

by BBelew57 on October 15th, 2007

Today is Blog Action Day.

I'm challenged to write something related to the environment.

Hmm…here we go.

China will ban trading by exporters who pollute.

China is serious about doing the right thing when it comes to the environment…at least in the news.

In practice…well, it remains to be seen.

Beijing will restrict exporters who violate environmental regulations from trading

overseas.chinese.export.ban.jpg

Suspension of one to three years will be used to punish companies that pollute or seize environmental resources illegally.

Beijing is calling on environmental watchdogs to strengthen supervision = squeal louder and longer on offenders.

If a company offends, local departments are authorized to punish violators by withholding export-related applications.

Let's see…a company is big enough to export. They bring jobs to the local community…they pollute.  A few tree huggers cry 'foul' and report it to the local government who's livelihood depends on taxes from the people and the company they are going to restrain??

Doesn't seem likely.

But, it's the thought that counts, right?

No! There needs to be some serious follow through and accountablilty.

Beijing is trying…but it'll take the grassroots folks to make a difference.

What do you think?

Blog Action Day - Pharma and the Environment

Hmm…

Hey, at least China is trying to step it up. The US government is trying to do it’s part to, but I’m hoping that the energy bill on the table right now will do a little more. I’m working with a coalition to keep this energy bill moving in the right direction. Right now it’s calling for a 15% renewable electricity standard nationwide as well as 35 mpg fuel economy standard. Just think of the positive impact that would have on our environment not to mention dependence on foreign oil. If you’re interested in making a big difference on this Blog Action Day head over to http://www.energybill2007.org and sign a petition to keep the standards on the energy bill where they are now.

oThere are many different opinions about the environmental issues.Maybe environmental issues relates to the economic issues, they are two sides of one point.China needs economic developed and society advanced,so the nation should promote its industry, and meanwile small investment in the environment protection.
So I think, the goverment and enterprises of china don’t have enough money to handle the environmental problems. The other deleloping nations face the same problem. As develpoped nations, they have liability to help developing nations ‘economically and environmentally.
