Gang Chen is a Chinese newcomer who will sing “You are the most beautiful in the whole world” for the FIFA Women's World Cup during the opening ceremony of the 5th edition of the world's biggest women's competition on Sept. 10th at the Shanghai Hongkou Football Stadium.

The song was released by Sony BMG, produced by Jonathan Lee, originally launched on April 22, 2007 during a live TV show on CCTV.

Taking elements from ethnic art forms such as Peking drums and Suzhou Pingtan “You are the most beautiful in the whole world” is a fusion of contemporary pop and traditional Chinese folk music with instruments ranging from electronic guitar to flute. The contrast between the male lead vocal and multiple layered background vocals creates an interesting dialogue-like ambience. Rather than showing off his vocal range, Gang Chen, the performer of the song, takes a more down-to-earth approach to make this song appeal to different demographics, namely football fans from all backgrounds and of all age groups. Lyrically, “You are the most beautiful in the whole world” is both story-telling and highly visualizing. It is easy to understand, yet not without a poetic touch. All in all it is culturally inspiring and musically fabulous.

The Official song is part of an exclusive agreement between FIFA and SONY.

The two entities have enjoyed a successful partnership since the release of the first official FIFA World Cup Song in 1994.
