End of Korean War in Sight - Bush
U.S. President George Bush told his South Korean counterpart that an end to the Korean War could be declared if the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will end its nuclear weapons program.
When Bush was asked to be 'clearer' he responded, "I can't make it any more clear… We look forward to the day when we can end the Korean War. That will happen when Kim Jong-il verifiably gets rid of his weapons programs and his weapons."
The Korean Peninsula has been left in a state of war when it ended in a truce.
There is no formal peace treaty.
Meanwhile, the DPRK has invited the U.S., China and Russia to send their nuclear experts to survey its facilities.
