Reincarnation of Living Buddhas Need Government Approval

by BBelew57 on August 3rd, 2007

It doesn't matter that you used to be a gnat, a sparrow or the Prince of Thieves.

If you have been reincarnated as a new Living Buddha, it's not official until Beijing says so.

China's State Administration for Religious Affairs (SARA) says it will approve all reincarnations to determine if they are illegal or invalid.

"It is an important move to institutionalize management on reincarnation o145.monks.jpgf living Buddhas," says SARA.

For sure. What would we do if we an uncontrollable amount of recincarnated Living Buddhas running around….and without

government permission?!

Kublai Khan of the Yuan Dynasty conferred the title of living Buddha on Vphag-pa, a religious leader in Tibet during the Yuan Dynasty. Since then people have been calling eminent monks - Living Buddhas.

In Japan, to be a Buddha, you just have to shave your head and sit still for a photo op.

Do you believe in reincarnation?
