I thought only Japanese were afraid of meeting new people, relatively poor at socializing (by western standards) but not so.
A survey found that less than 40% of Chinese are comfortable with or confident about their skills in initiating a conversation with a stranger.
Their major social resource is family or relatives.
Alumni, colleagues and other social circles are not tapped into.
A Stanford University study found that "nearly 90 percent of the money one makes during one's lifetime comes from one's social network."
No wonder I don't have any money....my family is poor, too!
Chinese only initiate social interactions when they are in a stable enviroment:
1. new school
2. new job
where they can get to know people over time.
Parties, plane rides, bars...doesn't happen.
I met a Chinese fellow once while I was waiting for my son
to complete his driving test. The Chinese man was waiting for his wife to do the same.10 days later I was with him in China on business. But, come to think of it, I think I was the one who struck up the conversation.
How well do you make conversation with strangers?
Do not worry about Chinese,yes. some of them are shy, because they from contry side, Visit the town of Europe, American or whatever place, people there always shy.But if you go to Chinese party, people there are different.We just do not confident as American, we know we can not change the world as we think, and not like europe people, we wonnot say do not late, this is europe...
