3 Reasons for Transparency in Media Reporting

I am reminded of the girls who tried to steal all the newspapers that had unflattering pictures plastered on the front page.

The end result was many more people saw the pix than might have had they just let things run its course.

Transparency is necessary in media coverage. Blocking information just doesn't cut it.

There are reasons:

1. Blocking negative incidents is just "too naive." In this day and age of the Internet, mobile phones, it is quite easy to spread info no matter how hardmedia.coverage.jpg someone tries to prevent it.

2. Being open and free with information builds public trust rather than

squelches it.

3. Enlisting the help of the media allows for a quicker response when something does go wrong.

There is a new openness decree that was approved in January....

The country - China.

But, will the country, the local government and central government really be open?

The recent brick kiln slave scandal causes us to believe that not everybody believes in openness just yet.
