What American Professors Can Learn from the Chinese

by BBelew57 on April 17th, 2007

"The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has warned its academicians against commercially endorsing products, activities or services."

China thinks that "With their contributions to the progress of science and technology, academicians could be deeply influential with the public."

American academicians thing THAT is WHY they should endorse products…especially with the money that can follow.

The beef is that Chinese academicians exploit their prestige to:

1. expand commerical activities

2. gain commercial advantages

3. act as 'image ambassadors'

4. use their names in endorsements

5. seek improper profits

So, if a prof is a public servant working at a public university, should the money they make as a result from this work be given back to the public?
