Hundreds of Thousands of Toads Attack Village - Global Warming?

by BBelew57 on April 27th, 2007

A remote village in southwest China is under attack, according to residents, by 100s of thousands of toads.

Following a heavy rainfall, no doubt an unusual occurence caused by global warming, villagers woke up, stepped out of bed onto a floor engulfed with black, thumb-sized toads.

The villagers, not knowing what to do, locked themselves in their homes and the toads had the run of the outdoors.

Toads are considered beneficial and highly valued because they eat pests. But what about when the pest controller becomes a pest.

One trick the people have learned is that toads get frightened at hand-clapping.

"Look Bertha! They like us. They are applauding us. Let's go to the field to get the relatives."

"Good idea, Mike."

Scientists are indeed blaming it on the climate. In other words, they don't know why.

They say, it's the peak time for toads to reproduce, there are two rivers nearby and a timely rain came after a long drought (caused by global warming).

I think…the crocodiles are calling on their amphibious friends to help them in the battle against the humans. Nothing more.
