Four-Year Ban on Japanese Rice Lifted in China
This can be a win-win for China and Japan. Japan needs someplace else, a big market to sell its rice - China. And the Chinese will be able to enjoy the great taste of Japanese rice.
The agreement was signed hours before China's Premier was to arrive in Japan for a three-day visit, the first such visit by a Chinese premier in seven years.![]()
Last year Japan exported just 900 tons of rice to Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore while importing 70,000 tons from the United States, Australia, Vietnam, Thailand and China under a World Trade Organization import quota.
Now…it's Japan's turn to do the selling.
Have you ever had Japanese rice?
