World Cup 2018 - China vs. USA

FIFA President Sepp Blatter is saying that the United States has the best shot at hosting the World Cup in 2018, again.

But, but…China could step up as a contender to host the tournament.

According to the sport's rotation system of Africa, Asia, Europe, North, Central America and the Caribbean, and South America…2018 would be the United States' turn.

And the United States wants it again.  

But…China has been feeling out the FIFA hierarchy about hosting it in Beijing after the 2008 Olympics and might challenge the rotation and the United States.

There is discussion about reorganizing the federations such that North America would be combined with Central America. In that event, Asia's turn would come sooner, making China a main contender vs. Australia (part of Asia, somehow) the other announced candidate.

Australia vs. China to host the world….does this remind anyone of the leadup to the 2000 Olympic games?

South Africa will host the World Cup in 2010 and the 2014 tournament will go to South America.

2018 is a long way away…but China will be in the mix for hosting the world's most popular athletic event.
