A lucky phone number - six consecutive eights - was sold in eastern China for $44,000.
China Mobile's Jaingxi branch held an auction...the buyer's name was not given.
Easy enough to find out, however, just dial six eights and see who picks up. If no one picks up, then somebody wasted $44,000.
Eight is a favorite number in China...license plates, hotel numbers, apartment numbers, August 8th, eight day of the month, knocks on wood, number of boy children, marriages....no, those last few are not true.![]()
I am not superstitious, but it seems my Chinese wife is. She loves anything with an eight in it. 8 potstickers for lunch, living on the eighth floor....
Me? I'd rather have the $44,000 than have everyone in the world know what my phone number is.
How about you?
Are you superstitious?
