Eric Clapton in Shanghai

by BBelew57 on January 7th, 2007

Eric Clapton follows, Sir Elton John, the late James Brown, Black Eyed Peas and others to China's business and entertainment hub, Shanghai.

January 20th, Eric Clapton will perform in front of patrons for 1,800 ($220) to 300 yuan ($28).

The Rolling Stones cleaned up in Shanghai…but mostly in front of expatriates, indicating that Chinese, even Shanghaiese are not too familiar with the bands and individuals of the 60's and 70's.eric-clapton.jpg

Another obstacle is prices so high a stairway to heaven might be the only way some Chinese could pay.

Mariah Carey had a concert cancelled because the event organizers could not sell enough tickets.

I am not sure that a 60+ ex-rock star is going to have much appeal to the new China.

What do you think?

I think Eric Clpaton will draw there. There seems to be more of an appeal to the rock scene then popular artists.

It really is amazing to see the walls coming down though.
