2 Million Teens Addicted to the Internet

by BBelew57 on January 17th, 2007

China says that of its 18.3 million teen Internet users, 'the good kids who impress their parents and teachers' are the most vulunerable to becoming addicted to the net…and so far that makes about 2 million kids 15-20 years of age.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences says that "Internet addicts in China are as many as 10 years younger than those in the West. They are more susceptible."

A lack of diversion at school is blamed partially for the addictions.

The kids don't have anything else that is 'fun' to do and consequently turn to illegal Internet cafes that expose them to crime and violence.internet.addict.jpg

One Chinese newspaper says there has been a 68% rise in juvenile crime in the past five years.

I had a teacher who worked for me once who ALWAYS had his nose in a book. He looked like he was doing something good…always reading, until we learned what he read.

Sitting in front of a computer screen does not a smart kid make….

Get out and play!

When I was young, I used to play outside. Now, children just don’t much space to play out. Also, the parents both have to work so it is impossible for them to take care of the child( always only one child in one family). So often, the child was locked up in the house alone. Terrible…

Morever, you can never believe how much school work a Chinese kid needs to finish everyday.

So once they get time, rather than going to playground(actually, few playgrounds), they prefer to go the net cafe to play on-line games, and be what they want to be in the internet world.

Thanks to my parents, I only got to know internet after I went to college, or else, I don’t think I can go to college.

As my parents have said: Internet is evil, stay away from it!

Do you parents know you are on the Internet now? 8-)

Yes, actually, they are using internet to contact me now, mostly by posting some kind of “letters” in my blog. But for the young kids, like my young cousin(14 years old), they even don’t allow him to touch the computer:)

Look guys I’m not going to reveal my age but what you say about us having nothing else to do is right! We have moved out to a new place temporary for work and there isn’t anyone I know out here. I’m not a big socializer and on the internet i have lots of friends i can talk to. Don’t blame us and don’t take it away.

We have lives on here and I’m on here because there isn’t anything else for me. Even at home though with my friends I’m on the internet all the time. Not because I’m anti-social. Because it’s fun. There is lots of stuff to do and talk about. Stop giving us small time limits, stop yelling at us calling us addicts. We have souls and fealings. What right do you have to call us addicts when there are so many other things that you guys do like drugs. We don’t get on you about it.

So lay off this stuff. Let your kids be happy and do what they want. Encourage them to do well in school and let them have fun. My parents call me and addict and yell at me about school. It’s not easy on us! We hate you guys labeling us just because were different. We might change we might not. But for god sakes, let us be us.
