
According to a Manpower, Inc. White Paper management level attrition rates in China are 25% higher than the global average and it can cost as much a 3 to 20 times the manager's salary to replace a lost manager.
Manpower says that the number one way for multinationals to keep managers in to understand Chinese culture and leverage that understanding. Example - A Chinese worker is not likely to tell a manager they do not know how to complete a job, thus requiring a different kind of leadership than can be found in the west.
Despite the high turnover, Manpower found that 75% of Chinese employees prefer to work for a wholly-owned foreign company as opposed to a joint venture.
Chinese multinationals need managers who understand both sides of the ocean.
