Yahoo CEO, Terry Semel, Gives Huge Shot in the Arm to Online Media

by BBelew57 on April 22nd, 2006

Just a couple of hours ago, Yahoo CEO, Terry Semel participated in a Q & A session at the Commitee of 100’s 15 Annual Conference.

One of the questions that was offered up from the audience was, "What do you see as the future of online media?" (I asked the question…)

He responded: "The next wave of journalist all-stars will come from the blogging community."

Hey, that’s us. That’s me.

Yahoo just partnered with Alibaba.com in China. Alibaba is the largest e-commerce business in China. And by chance, the CEO and owner of Alibaba, Jack Ma, was sitting at the table with me. How’s that for name dropping?

There was some discussion about how Yahoo might initiate a service that would allow a search for ’serious’ bloggers that would make it easier for readers to find current content and recognize it as content that is not posted ‘for fun’.

This is what I want….the ability to search out current content by ’serious’ bloggers.

When I do a search of a topic now, I can find info from a blogger that is 2 years old or more, ancient by today’s standards.

Can’t there be a way to find current info from bloggers who blog regularly and update the content often - read daily or a minimum times weekly?

How about a function that allows someone to search all blogs and then another search that allows someone to search blogs that have been updated in the past day, past few days, past week and so on? How hard can that be?

Besides putting a bug in the ear of the CEO of Yahoo, and the co-founder of Yahoo, Jerry Yang, I also was able to put a bug in the ear of the CEO of the largest company in China.

I hope someone will take this idea and make something of it.

What do you think abou the idea?
