Japan's blogs are grumbling big time because Japan has placed a ban on the resale of some goods. In short, Japan is trying to close down the second-hand stores.
Starting April 1st, Japan will place a ban on the resale of 450 products that were manufactured before 2001, including TVs, audiovisual equipment, video game machines, fridges and electric musical instruments.
The reason is because of changes in safety regulations. The bloggers say it is because Japan wants to boost sales of new electronics goods - basically giving a gift to manufacturers.
Japan has a mandatory inspection that all new cars must go through after three years and then every two years after that. The inspection costs are close to 200,000 yen or nearly $2000.
Is it any wonder that Japanese like to get a new car BEFORE the three year mark and definitely before the 5 year mark? This keeps the car manufacturers happy for sure.
Is the ban on resale of old electronic goods more of the same?
The second hand retailers don't think it will hurt so much - Demand for old isn't so high when the newest gadgets create the most excitement, they say.
