Here in the Valley (I live in Silicon Valley) Toyota Priuses were back ordered for months not long ago. I don't know where it stands now. But people were buying these snazzy 'green cars' and then turning around and selling them again for a $3-4k profit.
Perhaps the fact that we were paying over $3/gal for gas (the cheap stuff) had something to do with it.
Well, it seems there is finally a car company that wants to challenge this dominance by Toyota. It's Honda with their new Fit. And they plan to offer it for about half the price of what the Toyota Prius is going for. Both cars will get better than 50mph.
I used to drive a little 1litre 3 cylinder Daihatsu Diesel in Japan...oh, more than 15 years ago. And it got 55mph back then! Not only can Japan build them well and to go a long way, they can do it for a reasonable price and they have been doing it for along time.
Why can't America do that? Get with it America!
