In Japan, Sony is attacking Apple with its Mora Online Music store.
Sony has many popular songs from its own record label and thus is able to bypass iTunes.
That alone will encourage many Japanese pop fans to opt for a Walkman .
In December alone, Sony sold nearly 3 times the total of songs that it sold the whole previous year.
Apple's iPod has a bigger memory - 30GB - to 20GB.
Sony's Bean is cheaper - $280 - $300.
Apple has many more adapters than Sony does...Apple sold nearly seven times as many iPods as Sony did. Apple is winning this war....and Sony is a distant number 2.
But my experience with doing business in Japan is that Japan will take a long range view of things. Give it some time, Sony is likely to catch up, I think.
What do you think?
